“How I got into this? Well, like Frost, you know, I saw two roads diverging in a wood. So I bushwhacked a path in some other direction. I mean, who wants to follow a crowd through the forest?”– Pansy Schneider-Horst
Welcome to my world! I’m Jessica Stadtmueller, and I am the artist behind Blackwood Cottage.
I’ve been an artist my whole life, painting, drawing, making miniatures…but I never expected to be making dolls! I have a B.F.A. in Studio Art from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, with a concentration in printmaking and a minor in ceramics. I am a member of the Northwestern Pennsylvania Artists Association (NPAA), residing in Erie, Pennsylvania. My work can be purchased at Artlore Studio, where I am currently a featured artist!
Participating in The Sketchbook Project 2016 reawakened my love of drawing. The sketchbook I created is a mixed media collection of images inspired by Alice in Wonderland. You can view the complete sketchbook in person at The Brooklyn Art Library, where it is permanently housed, or in their online gallery here.
I would love for you to browse my studio and watch my dolls and softies come to life. You can also follow me on instagram and facebook. I love to post in progress photos! I use the hashtag #blackwoodcottageart.
Questions about buying my work, using this online store, and my artistic process can be found on the FAQ’s page.
Please sign up for my email newsletter to learn about special promotions and where I will be vending next.
Oh, and did I mention I was invited to be a featured artist in the fall 2015 issue of Stuffed Magazine by Stampington & Co.? You can read more about my work, my process, and inspiration in this beautifully photographed publication featuring the best softie and doll artists from all over the world.
